Dragon Boating is an exciting and fast growing water sport in the UK which, unlike many other sports, is open to all ages and abilities. This year, Powerhouse had a very mixed crew with members ranging from 11 to 63 years of age. Dragon boating has a very strong team ethos as each boat consists of a crew of 20 paddlers, 1 drummer and 1 helm. Powerhouse Dragonboat Racing Club (DBRC) is a community based amateur sports club situated in the North East of England, who train on the river Tees. We also race throughout the UK at British Dragon Boat Association National League events, as well as hosting race meets which attract teams from all over the country, in addition to supporting requests for charity fundraising events and attendance at major festivals and regattas.
One of Powerhouse’s key aims as a club is to provide an opportunity to all members of the community, without discrimination, to take part in a healthy, physical and fun activity within a friendly and social environment.
Powerhouse DBRC has just completed their 2011 campaign culminating in a 2 day UK National Cup event held at the Nottingham National Water Sports Centre. This was attend by thousands of people and televised live internationally. We are now looking to move into the 2012 season and hope to bring together people from all walks of life and promote a healthy and happy lifestyle.
