Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need to be fit?

No, absolutely not! We welcome any fitness levels and the more you paddle, the fitter you will become!

Is there a special technique I need to know?

No, our experienced coaches will show you the ropes on dry land followed by gently progressive training drills on the water.

Do you need to be able to swim?

No, the idea is not to get into the water! Ideally you should be able to swim 50m in light clothing, please notify us in advance if you can’t.

Are there any age restrictions?

No, we welcome all ages from Juniors (under 18) and Seniors (over 40), to Grand-Dragons (over 50).  Our current crew ranges from 11  – 70.

Do I need any special equipment?

No, everything you need, paddle etc will be provided. All you need to bring is enthusiasm.

What should I wear?

This depends on the time of year and weather.  We recommend a few light layers then you can strip down if you get too warm. As it is a water sport the odd splash is inevitable, so wear something you don’t mind getting wet and those comfy old training shoes will be fine. The only rule we have is no jeans please.

How much does it cost?

For new paddlers, the initial taster sessions are absolutely FREE! There’s no pressure to join the club straight away, come down and see if you like it. Once you’re hooked and a regular, you will need to join.  We are a non-profit club so the membership fees are dependent on members, membership includes the full use of all the centre’s amenities including gym, function room and bar.
